Garbage delays today, look for 60s on Thursday

 

Jan. 9. Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools are out, but life is getting back to normal after a snow storm covered Cornelius in white, starting on the 12th day of Christmas last week.

For schools on the traditional calendar, the make-up day for students will be Friday, Feb. 17. Many businesses are opening an hour or two late.

Roads like West Catawba and Main Street are clear, but there may be black ice and refreezing during the early morning.

Garbage collection in Cornelius is running late as Republic Services employees report to work Monday on a delayed scheduled.

“Due to the recent snow and icy conditions some neighborhood roads, access lanes and parking lots may not be serviceable,” Republic said.

They will operate on Saturday should the need arise.

It’s about 20 degrees now, and partly cloudy, with a high forecast near 32. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The high tomorrow will be 37, according to the National Weather Service;55 on Wednesday; and 63 on Thursday.
