Fred Carol Conaway, 85

Fred Carol Conaway, 85, of Cornelius, North Carolina formerly of Fairmont died on Saturday, January 7, 2017 in Cornelius, North Carolina. He was born in Barrackville a son of the late Harry and Arlene Ely Conaway.

Fred proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard. He retired from the United Mine Workers Association working in the Barrackville Mines as a Supply Clerk.

He had been a member of Barrackville Church of Christ and Oakwood Road Church of Christ. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed dancing.

He is survived by his step-son, Frank Cervo and his wife Wilma, of Davidson, North Carolina; one step-daughter, Linda Haney and her husband Ronnie, of Charlotte, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Scott Cervo , Michelle Heller and her husband Eric, Michael Haney and his wife Cathy, Travis Haney and Berri Pratt; five great grandchildren, Isaac Heller, Oliver Heller, Anna Marie Haney, Katlin Haney, and Grant Haney; three nephews, Doug Conaway, Dan Conaway and Rob Conaway; one niece, Pam Conaway; and one sister-in-law, Gypsy Conaway.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Leona “Lee” Marie Conaway; and three brothers, Frank Conaway, Harry Conaway, and Jack Conaway.

Friends and Family may call at the Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 – 8 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Evangelist Brent Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Garden where full military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veteran’s Council. James Funeral Home served the family locally.
