Diverging Diamond lane closings update!

From Sunday, Sept. 11, through Thursday, Sept. 15, the left eastbound lane coming across the Catawba Avenue bridge is scheduled to close at 9 p.m. each night and to reopen at 6 a.m. the following morning. Because the ramp will remain open, one way for eastbound motorists to reach northbound I-77 will be to use South Hill Street, Vivian Lane and South Ferry Street to access westbound Catawba Avenue and then exit onto the ramp.

On Monday, Sept. 19, and Tuesday, Sept. 20, there will be no closures, but crews will be working on the ramp during the day.

On Saturday, Sept. 24, at 9 p.m., the ramp from Catawba Avenue to northbound I-77 is scheduled to be closed through Sunday, Sept. 25. Signs will direct motorists to take southbound I-77 and use the exit at Sam Furr Road to access northbound I-77.

On Monday, Sept. 26, at 9 p.m., the contractor will add pavement markings, which may require lane closures through the night.

NCDOT says motorists should “stay alert, slow down and use extra caution when traveling through a work zone.”
