Catawba/Torrence Chapel on Tuesday agenda

A long-awaited traffic circulation plan for the West Catawba Ave/Torrence Chapel Road intersection will be presented Tuesday Jan. 17 at the Cornelius Town Board Meeting. Preliminary versions of the plan called for the elimination of many left turns, which was the source of some road rage among residents and business owners.

“The Town and a stakeholder committee have been working with NCDOT and their traffic engineering consulting firm, WSP/Parsons-Brinckerhoff, on a study for future improvements to this intersection,” said Assistant Town Manager Andrew Grant. “They will provide a presentation summarizing the study and its recommendations at Tuesday’s meeting.” The plan is not expected to be voted on tomorrow night.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the board is expected to consider designating the Sherrill-Robbins home on Zion Avenue as an historic landmark. Both the Charlotte Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission and the Cornelius Historic Preservation Committee have recommended that the home be so designated. The home and its new owners were profiled in the January edition of Cornelius Today.

The meeting, being held on a Tuesday due to the Dr Martin Luther King Monday holiday, begins at 7 pm in town hall on Catawba Avenue. Residents can view the meeting in real time by accessing the town’s official web site: www.cornelius.org.
