Bond issue on Monday’s Town Board agenda

The possibility of an additional general obligation bond issue totaling $10.7 million will be considered by the Cornelius Town Board at their meeting Monday night. Voters previously approved a bond issue totaling $20.4 million in 2013, and funds from those bonds are already being used. The new bond issue, dubbed Phase Two, would be subject to voter approval in November 2018. in its current configuration, $5.665 million of the Phase Two bond proceeds would be allocated for street improvements, $1.05 million for parks, and the remaining $4 million for the town arts center, according to Town Manager Anthony Roberts. Most of the highway project money would go towards the realignment of Bailey Road, which has a number of curves between highways 115 and 21. Also at Monday’s meeting, the board is expected to appoint Ron Potts to the fourth seat on the town’s Historic Preservation Committee.
The meeting will begin at 7 pm at Cornelius Town Hall on Catawba Avenue downtown.
