While today is Martin Luther King Day and banks and the Post Office are closed, the Smithville CommUNITY Coalition at the Town of Cornelius will observe Black History Month Saturday afternoon Feb. 18 at Town Hall. This year’s program, which runs from 1 pm to 3 pm, will feature presentations from Jan Blodgett of Davidson College and Marshall Lowery, author of “If You Wanna Help the Poor…Then Don’t Be One of Them.” There will be local memorabilia, live performances, children’s activities and refreshments.
