Tool time: Armed robbery at Home Depot

A larcenous individual “stuck an unknown type of weapon, possibly a handgun,” into the side of one female at Home Depot in Cornelius and made off with a variety of things, including deck joist ties, drill bits and two gyroscopic screwdrivers. Total value: $553.08.

Cornelius Police say it happened around 5 pm Dec. 16. No weapon was displayed, but the perpetrator threatened another woman, a cashier, who said an “unknown black male came to her register, demanded she open the register and threatened her life.”

Police say the suspect then grabbed his cart of tools and fled the business. He took two joist ties, valued at $2.97 a piece; a Bosch Daredevil three-piece spade bit set, valued at $8.97;  a five-pack Bosch T-Shank Jigsaw Blade set, valued at $4.17; two Dewalt 8-volt Gyroscopic screwdrivers, valued at $69 each; a Dewalt radio, valued at $99; two Dewalt 1/2 VSR Drills, valued at $89 each; and a Milwaukee Magnum 1/2 Drill, valued at $119.00.

All the items were recovered, but the suspect, who was described as aggressive and threatening, fled. The case is still under investigation, according to police.
