Heat wave: Today will be the hottest day so far this year; fans available

AccuWeather forecasts 99 at 4 pm

June 26. Will temperatures hit the century mark today? Maybe not but it will feel hotter. The National Weather Service says today’s high will be near 97, AccuWeather says 99 and WCNC forecaster Larry Sprinkle says it will feel like 102.

Look for sunny skies, maybe a few clouds, along with humidity.

Thursday

Look for slightly cooler—maybe not nearly as hot is a better way to say it—temps tomorrow, but still hot and humid, with heat indices approaching 100. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are more likely.

Weekend

Temps remain in the 90s through the weekend, then upper 80s Monday and Tuesday.

Fans for seniors

Seniors or adults who receive disability income get free box fans by registering online or calling the Northern Regional Recreation Center, 18121 Old Statesville Road in Cornelius, at 980-314-6772.

One fan per person. Available while supplies last.

Drink water throughout the day, limit your exposure to the sun, and stay cool with an AC or fan.
