Cornelius resident killed while crossing street in Davidson

April 2. Davidson Mayor John Woods was on the scene after Janet McFadden, the well-known owner of Davidson Pet Sitters, was hit by a garbage truck just after noon yesterday.

McFadden was walking two dogs near Flatiron Kitchen on Main Street. Police charged the driver, Jeffrey Wilburn, 38, with misdemeanor death by vehicle. Like others in the pedestrian-friendly town, Mayor Woods said he was shocked.

Davidson Police and Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit responded to the crash. According to the Charlotte Observer, the driver did not see McFadden. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.

From Ellington, Ct., McFadden was a fixture in Davidson. Georgia Krueger, executive director of the Ada Jenkins Center, said this on her Facebook page:

“Like so many of us who live in a round Davidson, my heart is heavy. Janet was a dear friend who cared so deeply for those she loved. And I’m quite certain there was never an animal she met that didn’t love her. My dogs kept whining last night;I think they know that they lost their friend. My prayers are with Brian, the kids, and her entire family. Janet will be deeply missed.”
